Design Intent – An Ode To Tradition; a retail experience that embodies the brand’s inspiration.
This flagship store in Karachi for Mohsin Naveed Ranjha Design Studio, pays homage to the rich cultural heritage of Pakistan, particularly the grand rituals and time-honoured traditions surrounding weddings and festivities.
We have carefully curated a spatial narrative that captures the essence of celebration, incorporating elements that evoke a sense of nostalgia. The delicate beauty of Jasmine flowers (motia) takes center stage, collected in a copper (peetal) bowl, providing both a visual and olfactory reminder of the past. An ornate carved wooden swing (jhoola) represents the simple pleasures of leisure from bygone days. Strings of motia fill the air with the fragrance of fresh florals, while ornate window carvings and flamboyant floor patterns define the central courtyard. Mirrors with intricate patterns distort and magnify the shimmering celebration.
This retail experience seamlessly blends the old with the new, embracing cultural roots within a contemporary setting. It offers a new canvas for imagination to flourish, providing a space where tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously.
The experience begins at the storefront window which is a protruding arched volume. The entrance is marked by a magenta door that elegantly marks the street presence. Drawing inspiration from our Eastern heritage and history, the spacious layout invites exploration of pret wear for both men and women. Patterned marble floors and display units adorned with wooden carvings, sculpted brass works, and embossed motifs create an atmosphere of refined craftsmanship. Inside, the doors are named after the ancient gates of Lahore, the traditional capital of Punjab, Pakistan, and the birthplace of the brand. They bear the signature motifs that are intricately embroidered onto the outfits.
The bridal floor captivates brides-to-be, unveiling a world of bridal couture that merges traditional luxury with contemporary elegance. Colour-blocked planes and modernized arches pay homage to the Mughal era in a fresh and contemporary manner. Swings (jhoolas) not only display draped outfits on mannequins but also offer seating within the store lounges, adding to the immersive experience.
